OUR Corner….For Us Sisters

The things they don’t tell you…..

It was October 25th, approximately 11:30 pm, with less than 30 mins left of my 25th birthday…the BIG TWO-FIVE…my golden year….when it dawned on me. See, I’ve been going about this thing called life all wrong. Like many millennials my age, I thought that at this milestone, I would have it all together. Popping career, popping personal life, stamp-filled passport, popping roster of friends, and a popping spiritual life. Well, this is not the case; rather, I am more lost than ever.

SEE, there are things THEY DON’T TELL YOU……

If you’re reading this post, you probably already know who I am, but for those that don’t… hi, I’m Francheska Keke. I am a writer, a poet, a feminist, an immigrant, an anomaly, a vessel of culture, a force of change, a roommate (for my fellow shade-roomers), a lover of all things golden, a head wrap enthusiast, a promoter of #BlackGirlMagic and #BlackBoyJoy, the blackbird in Nina Simone’s BlackBird, the Icarus that seems to always fly too close to the sun. But most importantly, I am a queen, a queen that has lost her crown. And from one queen to another, I am here to tell you the things THEY DON’T tell you. Or rather WE, because it’s not just me.

Joining me on this journey of untold secrets are other Queens and we are here to bare it all. The good, the bad, and even the ugly. This is a corner for pure, unadulterated emotions. A corner of emotional vulnerability, because we have a story to tell, but we also want to hear your story too. A corner to explore the rawness of when things go right and the realness of when things go wrong. We are going to help each other find strength in moments of weakness, happiness in pits of darkness, joy in our sorrows, and perspective in our failures. WE, every woman writing her truth and every woman who sees her reflection in these words, will find solace in this corner, her corner, OUR corner……For Us Sisters.

Inspired by the movie For Colored Girls, the new series

OUR Corner….For Us Sisters

is going to explore the adversities of the lives of young black women

on the plight to success.

Stay Tuned.
