Throughout her debut offering, Last Day of Summer, Summer Walker delivers the same gritty independent woman vibes you get from her singles Girls Need Loveand CPR. The Atlanta-based R&B singer has already drawn comparisons to H.E.R., Ella Mai, and S.Z.A., with her soulful, strong vocals.

“Telling me what I can’t get out of you, what you will do, what you won’t do, but I don’t need you and I’m not supposed to.”

Last Day of Summer offers listeners a chance to experience exceptional lyricism and production, along with incredible vocals. Despite the overall quality of the album, Last Day of Summer does leave fans wanting more. Four of the most IG caption worthy songs on the album, “BP”, “Deep”, “Baby”, and “I’m There”, are all under two minutes long.

“It’s when you calling I’m there
Like ooh, ah, pull up, hop out, ooh, ah
When you calling I’m there
Like ooh, ah, pull up, hop out, ooh, ah
Calling I’m there
Like ooh, ah, pull up, hop out, ooh, ah”

When she’s not creating and pushing her own music, Walker is working behind the scenes. She’s involved with artist and studio management and creative direction at her record label, LVRN. LVRN, based out of Atlanta and affiliated with Interscope, boasts a roster that is making waves in the music industry with D.R.A.M. and 6LACK leading the pack.

While Walker does not yet have the same name recognition as her label mates, she is another face of the resurgence of R&B music that allows the audience to feel every emotion the performer is going through while recording. Walker credits Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, and Jimi Hendrix as influences on her sound and confident style.

“Nice to meet you, I’m sorry
I’m just here to do my job
Nice to meet you, know my name
Please don’t fear me, I’m just karma”
